Samsung- The company among the largest Mobile Manufacturers and Sellers

A predominant brand in smartphone manufacturing, Samsung Electric Industries was started in 1938 by Lee Byung-chull.  South Korea based company has headquartered in the country. The company is multinational conglomerate. Samsung is the biggest Korean company.  The company has diversified profile in different sectors. The company was making products and providing services for food processing, textiles, insurance, securities, and retail. Samsung entered in electronics industry in 1960s. Samsung had intensified its activities in mobile & other electronics making and selling and globalized the setup.  By 2017, Samsung was sixth highest global brand value.  The company has robust influence over economic development of South Korea.

As of 2019, Samsung has its mobile phone manufacturing units in 6 countries – Vietnam, China, India, Brazil, Indonesia, and South Korea. Fifty percent of Samsung mobile phones are manufactured in Vietnam and 8% in Korea. Rest is manufactured in Brazil, India, Indonesia and China. Year 2018 was luck for India because Samsung decided to expand its production and opened a new mobile phone manufacturing factory in Noida, UP, India. The factory was started under “Make in India” imitative & it is considered the largest mobile phone production plant of the world.

Samsung released its first ever Android smartphone in 2009. As of 2017, number of Samsung smartphone user was near 299.24 million.  The company is among prominent mobile sellers in India as well as in the world. Samsung has used Linux based mobile operating system Tizen. Tizen OS is a unique attempt by Samsung to reduce dependence over Android OS. It is noticeable that Android powers most of its mobile phones.

Samsung Galaxy is series of mobile devices designed, manufactured and sold by Samsung Electornics. The product series includes Samsung Galaxy S series of elegant smarphones, Samsung Galaxy Tab series of tablets and Samsung Galaxy Note series of tablets and phablets (half-smartphone and half-tablet mobile) (phone+tablet=phablet).

The revenue of the company was Rs. 55,511 crore in India in FY 2017. This was increase by 11% in next year. It was Rs. 61065 crore in FY 2018.

The company has been competing with other technology leaders in the market and making and selling feature packed & budget mobiles on reasonable prices. The prime competitors are VIVO, Xiaomi, OPPO and Huawei. These are china based technology companies.
